Internship at Politecnico di Milano
Researchers from the Institute of Ionosphere (Urazaliyev A.S., Shoganbekova D.A., Kozhakhmetov M.S.) successfully completed a specialized training program on “Geoid Computation” at Politecnico di Milano, Italy, in September 2024.
The program covered theoretical and practical aspects of gravimetric geoid modeling using collocation methods.
Training Program Highlights
- Theoretical course on collocation methods and their role in improving geoid computation accuracy.
- Hands-on training with GRAVSOFT software for geoid calculations and data analysis.
- Application of collocation methods in constructing local geoid models.
- Evaluation of Fast Collocation (FC) and Window Collocation (WC) techniques for geoid modeling.
Establishment of the "Geoid School"
An agreement has been made to launch the “Geoid School” in Kazakhstan in 2025. The program aims to enhance the skills of specialists and young researchers in geoid computation, modeling, and gravimetric data integration. Discussions covered key preparatory steps, including curriculum development, lecture selection, and inviting leading experts.
Scientific Collaboration
A memorandum of cooperation was signed between Politecnico di Milano and the Institute of Ionosphere to develop high-precision geoid models for Kazakhstan, modernizing the country’s vertical datum and fostering scientific collaboration.
